APEX HIGH

On Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the media center, the Parent Coalition for Excellence will conduct a special spring program: "Developing Good Study Habits." Department chairs will discuss how good study habits lead to classroom success.

APEX MIDDLE

Morgan Haney, an eighth-grade drama student at Apex Middle, won first place in the middle school division of a state playwriting competition for her script, "Their Minds Were Rather Reckless." The competition is sponsored by North Carolina Theatre Arts Educators in collaboration with the theater department at UNC-Greensboro. Morgan's play will be performed by UNC-Greensboro theater students at Center Stage in Greensboro and will also be published in an anthology of student-written plays.

ATHENS DRIVE HIGH

The Symphonic Band has been accepted to perform for the 2010 Music for All National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis from March 4 to 6.

Natalie Bader and Ryan Petersburg, both juniors, were chosen for membership in Music for All's 2010 Honor Band of America. Natalie is the daughter of Lance and Laurie Bader. Ryan is the son of Alan and Deborah Petersburg. Their band director is Dr. Jerry Markoch. The Honor Band of America will perform March 6, at 8 p.m. at Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind. as part of the Music for All National Festival.

EAST CARY MIDDLE

East Cary Middle School will host group tours of the East Cary campus at 8 and 9 a.m. on Thursday and Feb. 18. Call 919-466-4377 to reserve space.

HOLLY RIDGE ELEMENTARY

The 2010 Science Fair at Holly Ridge Elementary School was a huge success. There were 68 project entries spread over all grades. All participants received certificates and ribbons for their hard work. Two students were recommended to continue to the regional science fair.

HOPE CHAPEL PRESCHOOL

Hope Chapel Preschool will have a Parents Nite Out fundraiser from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Children 5th grade and younger are welcome. Cost is $15 for each child and includes a pizza dinner. Today is the last day to register by calling 919-362-4321. Proceeds will go to the preschool and The American Red Cross/Haiti Relief. Hope Chapel Preschool is located at 6715 Old Jenks Road, Apex.

LUCY DANIELS CENTER

An open house for the Child Enrichment Preschool Program at the Lucy Daniels Center will be onFeb. 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. The open house will give parents a chance to learn more about the program for 3- and 4-year-olds. PENNY ROAD ELEMENTARY

Penny Road Elementary students are donating change to the Coins for Caring campaign which will continue through the first part of February. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross for earthquake victims in Haiti.
