Artists take cake
The Nature of Art celebrated 30 years of business on Feb. 20 with a birthday cake contest and party. The event featured music by percussionist Andrew Munger. Award-winning cooks include Rocky Alexander of Fuquay-Varina, who won the most delicious category for her chocolate truffle cake filled with raspberry jelly. Jeff Corlis, a student from Holly Springs High School, won the most- creative cake award with a tropical-themed layer cake.
Kodali wins tennis titles
Anudeep Kodali of Cary won the singles and doubles titles in the USTA 12-year-old Boys' National Championships last month at Cooper Creek Tennis Center in Columbus, Ga. Anudeep is ranked No. 10 in the nation. He trains at Cary Tennis Park.
Baking for Haitian orphans
Gingerbread LittleVersity held a bake sale on Feb. 19 to benefit Holy Family Institute, a U.S. orphanage which opened its residential program to 18 Haitian orphans.
The bake sale raised $546. Gingerbread is matching that amount for a total of $1092.
To donate to Holy Family Institute, drop by any of Gingerbread LittleVersity's three Fuquay-Varina locations: 211 Railroad Street, 1521 North Main Street, or 2204 North Main Street.

Kearby earns Eagle badge
Daniel Kearby was awarded the Boy Scouts of America's Eagle Scout rank during a Court of Honor on Oct. 18 at the Senior Center in Cary's Bond Park. Daniel is a member of Troop 216.
For his project, Daniel planned and supervised the construction of a bridge along the lake trail at Lake Crabtree County Park in Cary.
Daniel is a senior at Panther Creek High School in Cary. He is the son of Sue and Tim Kearby of Cary.
