For the first time in its 100-year history, Fuquay-Varina has a public information officer.
Susan Weis, former Executive Director for for Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association, started Monday in this full-time town staff position. Weis will disseminate information to residents, write press releases and act as a point-of-contact for the media.
The position was approved in Fuquay's budget last year, but stalled with the economy.
Weis is being replaced on the Fuquay-Varina Revitalization Association by Naomi Riley.
Cary has had a town spokesperson since 1997, and Holly Springs hired one in 2003.
In Apex, the town manager, assistant town manager and Mayor share the duties.
Fuquay-Varina has also just hired a new economic development director, James Sauls.
The human resources manager position remains vacant.
