Middle Creek quarterback Garrett Leatham's name appears often in the N.C. High School Athletic Association record books, but one feat stands out above them all.

Leatham ended his career with the fifth-most career passing yards state history, racking up 9,488 yards through the air in his three seasons on varsity. The number is second-most in Wake County history.

Opposing teams knew exactly what the game plan was when facing Middle Creek - Leatham would test them through the air.

But stopping Leatham from making those completions turned out to be much harder than just knowing what he would do.

This season for the Mustangs, he threw for 3,385 yards and 24 touchdowns while being named second-team all-conference for the second time in his career. He was a first-team all-conference performer his junior year when he threw for 3,855 yards (15th most in NCHSAA history) and led his team to a conference title.

Leatham will be a preferred walk-on at N.C. State next year.

"It's been a great three years at Middle Creek and I'm excited to get the opportunity to play the sport I love for a couple more years," Leatham said.

Leatham's career highs are among the state's top all-time numbers as well, ranking in the top 15 for single-game passing yards (451), single-game passing completions (33) and single-game passing attempts (55).
