Increasingly rare

Common sense says we shouldn’t deliberately pollute our water. It is a vital resource for life on this planet and over 60 percent of our country is currently under drought conditions, but the powers that be voted to “investigate” the potential of fracking here.

Common sense says we shouldn’t have a fireworks show in a city where tall buildings would obscure the view for all but a select few, but the powers that be voted to go ahead with it.

Common sense says we shouldn’t have our children sit on a bus for over an hour to ride to a school less than 5 miles from their home, but the powers that be decided to do exactly that.

Common sense says we shouldn’t allow two companies to merge, creating the largest energy company in the U.S., which might someday become “too big to fail,” but the powers that be voted to allow it to happen anyway.

Common sense says we shouldn’t allow ourselves to be distracted while we’re driving on our busy highways at 60 mph, but we continue to text and drive anyway.

Common sense just doesn’t seem to be as common as it used to be.
