Lose the tolls

Now that we have a new crew of elected officials, I would like them to address the tolls on Interstate 540.

The tolls are designed to penalize all of the local daily commuters going to work, shopping, visiting doctors, driving kids to school and so forth. If you need revenue, put a toll on I-95 and catch all the interstate traffic, and let us local folks drive in peace.

I avoid paying the tolls, which amount to $1.04 per day, which amounts to $20.80 per month. That’s $249.60 per year. I pay my annual tax bill, of which some portion is already earmarked for road improvement, so why have a toll at all?

However, by avoiding the toll road, I run into extraordinary traffic during peak time, so government has created a lose/lose situation which can simply be rectified by rolling back the tolls altogether.
