Inn all wrong for Academy Street

I was born on Chatham Street in Cary 77 years ago, and I have been very proud and thankful that I could live my entire life here. To me, Academy Street, with its churches, schools and few old homes that are left, is a precious treasure.

When our leaders decided several years ago that we would someday have a one-square-block park bordered by Academy, Park and Walker streets, I was elated. What can be greater for us citizens to leave for our children and grandchildren?

An inn for downtown has great possibilities too, but please put it on Chatham Street or any place not next to our two historic churches and on our new parkland.

I was motivated to express my thoughts because I see a letter to the editor in The Cary News nearly every week expressing my same concerns, and I want concerned citizens to know it is not the old Cary people trying to push this motel off to Academy Street.

Let’s get together on this and try to persuade officials to reconsider this bad idea.
