Substitute Teachers Association Meeting
The Substitute Teachers Association of Wake County will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Olive Garden, 4805 Capital Blvd., Raleigh. The meeting will be short, and spouses are invited.
GameTruck Triangle Grant
GameTruck Triangle, a mobile video-gaming business based in Cary, is offering a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) grant for Triangle schools.
The company will award up to $250 and a two-hour GameTruck celebration to one Triangle school. Schools in Durham, Orange and Wake counties are eligible to apply. Applications must be postmarked or received on or before Thursday, Jan. 31.

Fuquay-Varina Chorus Fundraiser
The advanced choral groups at Fuquay-Varina High School will host a fundraiser event with a dinner and silent auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Fuquay-Varina Methodist Church, 100 Judd Parkway. The choral groups will perform throughout the evening. Tickets are $25 per person or $120 for a table of six. Proceeds will benefit the choirs cost to attend a choral competition in the spring.

Classrooms gather pennies
Green Hope Elementary School in Cary ranked third in the state for gathering pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters in the Olive Gardens national Pasta for Pennies fundraiser.
The annual project, which asks elementary, middle and high schools to fill collection jars in their classrooms with spare change over a three-week period, raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Green Hope Elementary students raised $7,274 this year.
Local Student is Video-Contest Finalist
A video submitted by Sean Smith, a fifth-grader at Weatherstone Elementary School, is one of 12 national finalists eligible to win $10,000 for a project to beautify his school. For the Scotties Trees Rock video contest, each student created a short video on the importance of trees.
The winner of the contest is determined by the video with the most votes. Anyone can vote once each day until Friday, Feb. 15. To vote, visit www.scottiestreesrock.com.
