Girls’ golf:

Fuquay-Varina will host the season’s third Southwest Wake Athletic Conference match. With one fewer member in the conference this year, the halfway point in the eight-match schedule is fast approaching. Green Hope entered the year as the SWAC favorite.

Volleyball:

5:30 p.m. Thursday

As the Southwest Wake Athletic Conference moves along in league play, this match will help distinguish who has the upper hand in the league. Apex at Fuquay-Varina on Tuesday will be a big game as well. Other Tuesday SWAC games are Holly Springs at Athens Drive, Panther Creek at Cary and Green Hope at Middle Creek. Other Thursday games include Athens Drive at Apex, Cary at Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina at Green Hope.

Boys’ soccer:

NCSCA Kick-off Classic

at WakeMed Soccer Park

Friday and Saturday

Athens Drive, Cardinal Gibbons, Cary and Wake Christian are participating in the N.C. Soccer Coaches Association Kick-off Classic on Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. There will be 27 games in two days. Athens Drive will play Cornelius Hough at 6:15 p.m. Friday and High Point Wesleyan Christian Academy at 4 p.m. Saturday. Also on Saturday, Cary will play Waxhaw Cuthbertson at 10 a.m., Gibbons will play Hough at 11 a.m., and Wake Christian will play Newport Croatan at 2 p.m. See the PrepsNow blog at newsobserver.com/preps for a full schedule with field assignments.
