Football matchups

Panther Creek

at Leesville Road

The Catamounts (2-1) have posted back-to-back shutouts and only allowed 17 offensive points to powerhouse Wake Forest, ranked No. 2 by The News & Observer. No. 1 Leesville Road (3-0) and Braxton Berrios will be PC’s toughest test yet.

Game time: 7 p.m.

Middle Creek

at Wakefield

The No. 3 Mustangs (2-1) have shut down the run, but No. 11 Wakefield (3-0) has been getting it done with the passing game.

Game time: 7 p.m.

Holly Springs

at Jordan

The Golden Hawks (0-3) will travel to Durham in search of their first win on the year. Jordan (1-3) has yet to score more than 21 points this year.

Game time: 7 p.m.

Green Hope

at Athens Drive

The No. 10 Falcons (3-1) and Athens Drive (2-2) will kick off conference play one week early and take their bye in week 9. Athens Drive leads the all-time series 8-5 and has won the last seven in a row.

Game time: 7:30 p.m.

at Fuquay-Varina

Once upon a time, the “Battle of N.C. 42” was an important rivalry. There may not be any bad blood between No. 7 Clayton (4-0) and the Bengals (2-1), but it’s a great out-of-conference game. The last two years have been one-point contests, and four of the last five years have been decided by seven points or fewer. Fuquay-Varina has won the last six games.

Game time: 7:30 p.m.

at Apex

The Cougars (1-2) host a Riverside (2-2) team that has played in three contests decided by seven points or less, including a 22-20 loss to Fuquay-Varina.

Game time: 7:30 p.m.

Wake Christian

at Hobbton

The Bulldogs (1-3) and Hobbton Wildcats (0-3) have each lost three straight this season.

Game time: 7 p.m.

Halifax Academy

at Cary Christian

Halifax Academy (2-1) pays a visit to the Knights (1-2) in what should be an important game for N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 8-man football standings.

Game time: 7:30 p.m.

Player of the Week

For the second time this year, Green Hope junior quarterback Luke Massei gets the nod. He completed 22 of 31 passes for 288 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another in a 49-28 win against Cleveland.
