The N.C. High School Athletic Association released the fourth and final list of its “100 To Remember” series when it named the top 100 male athletes.

The “100 to remember” lists come during the NCHSAA’s 100th anniversary.

The other lists were administrators, coaches, and female athletes.

Two male athletes from the southwestern Wake area were honored: baseball players Josh Hamilton of Athens Drive and Vic Sorrell of Cary.

Hamilton, who now plays for the Los Angeles Angels, batted .636 and drove in 56 runs for Athens Drive in 1998. He was one of the top baseball prospects in the nation and was the first pick in the MLB Draft.

Sorrell, who played at both Cary and Clayton, led Clayton to the 1926 NCHSAA baseball championship.

Sorrell, a pitcher, went on to play at Wake Forest and the Detroit Tigers. He helped the Tigers to the 1935 World Series and later was the head baseball coach at N.C. State.
