• Despite a 59-4 loss over the weekend to four-time defending 4A dual wrestling champ Winston-Salem Parkland, Holly Springs’ wrestling team is still tops in the News & Observer area rankings. Cary is second and Panther Creek is ninth.

• After a loss to Northern Durham, Panther Creek dropped to No. 4 in the N&O boys basketball area rankings. Apex, which lost 60-59 to Middle Creek, dropped to No. 15.

• Five local girls basketball teams are in the N&O top 15 this week: No. 5 Apex, No. 7 Cary, No. 9 Cardinal Gibbons, No. 11 Holly Springs and No. 15 Athens Drive.

• Cardinal Gibbons boys basketball team handed Orange its first Big Eight Conference loss of the year on Friday, 54-47.
