— Westbound U.S. 64 is closed between Laura Duncan Road and Salem Street after a truck pulling a crane hit a railroad bridge, according to police.

All traffic heading west on U.S. 64 will need to exit at Laura Duncan Road, police said. The N.C. Department of Transportation, Apex Police and State Highway Patrol are responding to the accident.

Apex Police Captain Blair Myhand said the call came in at 10:51 am this morning.

"CSX will be here within an hour to inspect the bridge damage," Myhand said. Train traffic across the bridge has been shut down in the meantime.

Apex police expect to have one lane of the highway open within a couple of hours and anticipate having both lanes reopened later this afternoon.

Captain Myhand reported that it is too early to determine charges but stated that State Highway Patrol will ensure the driver and was within guidelines for the crane he was transporting.

There are no injuries involved in the accident and no damage reported to other vehicles.
