N.C. composers concert

The Halle Cultural Arts Center will host a concert of work by contemporary North Carolina composers, including Jacob Groff, Tom Lohr and Mark Scerce, at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at 237 N. Salem St., Apex. A reception will follow the concert. Tickets cost $12 for adults, $8 for students at www.etix.com.

‘United We Dance’

The Cary Ballet Company and The 3D Project will present “United We Dance” with jazz and ballet at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, and 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave. Tickets cost $15 at www.etix.com.

Kate McGarry at The Cary

En Plein Air Paint-Off

The third annual En Plein Air Paint-Off will be from 2:30-7 p.m. Friday, April 11, during Art After Dark in downtown Fuquay-Varina. Artists will paint the local landscape.

Apply to participate in the contest by Friday, March 14. Send an online application and three images of original artwork to director@fuquay-varinadowntown.com. A public auction of the paintings will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 7, on Vance Street. The top three winners’ paintings will be enlarged and placed on brick walls in the town’s historic district and added to the public art program organized by Fuquay-Varina Downtown and sponsored by Bob Barker, Inc. Cary Photographic Artists

Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition

Cary Visual Art’s Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition will begin July 18 and run though June 12, 2015, with the Best in Show winner announced July 18. There is an honorarium of $1,000 each for up to 12 finalists and $3,000 for one Best in Show winner. Marvelous Music series

As part of the third Marvelous Music season, performances will begin at 7 p.m. at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave. Tickets are $26 for adults, $24 for seniors and $88 for a pack of four.

The Cary Arts Center will host Crafty Connection, a series of arts and crafts activities for ages 2-12, before each concert. Activities, schedules and prices are online.

Ceilidh at The Cary

Cary’s first Ceilidh, a celebration of Scottish and Irish cultures, will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at The Cary, 122 E. Chatham St. There will be music and dance performances, poetry readings and a photography exhibit. The event is sponsored by the town of Cary and the Sister Cities Association of Cary. ‘King David’

The Concert Singers of Cary, Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle and narrator Ira David Wood III will perform Arthur Honegger’s “King David” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and free for students of all ages at www.concertsingers.org.

‘Feathers and Fur 2014’

Bobbi Hopp’s acrylic paintings and drawings will be shown in the exhibition “Feathers and Fur 2014” from Wednesday, March 26, to Tuesday, May 27, at the Herbert C. Young Community Center, 101 Wilkinson Ave., Cary. A Final Friday reception will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 28.

Small Treasures Juried Exhibit

The sixth annual Small Treasures Juried Exhibit of the Cary Gallery of Artists will be from March 27 to April 19. For details, go to www.carygalleryofartists.org.

Pizza and a movie

The Turkish House will host musical performances at 7 p.m. Friday, March 28, at 303 E. Durham Road, suite F, Cary. Admission is free.

Reflections Gallery at WakeMed seeks artists

WakeMed Cary Hospital’s Reflections Gallery is looking for artists from Cary and Wake County to display their work from Tuesday, July 1, through Wednesday, Oct. 1, or from Thursday, Oct. 2, through Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015.
