Donations for the Fuquay-Varina Emergency Food Pantry and Hand of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center will be collected. The food pantry needs dry and canned food. Purple Cloth 5K and Kid’s Dash

The third annual Purple Cloth 5K and Kid’s Dash, organized by Genesis United Methodist Church in Cary to raise money for the community-service programs of Dorcas Ministries, will start with the kid’s dash at 8 a.m. and the 5K at 8:15 a.m. at Fred G. Bond Metro Park, 801 High House Road, Cary. Last year’s three-mile run for all ages raised $3,500. There will be a bounce house for kids, food, awards, a raffle and an award for the best purple outfit.

Herbfest

The Friends of the Page-Walker Hotel will host the fifth annual Herbfest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, 119 Ambassador Loop, Cary. Vendors will sell food, gardening supplies and cooking supplies. There will be a silent auction, information about gardening from the Wake County Extension master gardeners and kids’ activities with Cary Teen Council volunteers. Paint the Town

Artists will paint scenes from Cary’s landscape, history and culture in natural light outdoors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. downtown.

Artwork will be displayed by local businesses from Tuesday, May 6, through Tuesday, May 27. Art will be sold in an auction on May 30 at the Cary Arts Center to raise money for Relief for Recreation, a scholarship fund for Cary residents to take part in recreation, sports, arts and cultural programs.
