Panther Creek has promoted Shawan Robinson to its head boys basketball coach position. Robinson has been the assistant to L.J. Hepp, who is stepping down as coach but remaining as athletics director, for two seasons.

Robinson, who teaches healthful living at the school, is a former star player in the Triangle. He played at Leesville Road for his father Darryl – who stepped down as coach at Wake Forest High recently – and went on to enjoy a four-year career at Clemson where he scored 1,176 points and was a four-team all-ACC academic selection. Robinson’s 91.3 percent free throw shooting during his senior year was fourth-best in ACC history at the time.

Robinson played overseas for three years and has recently suited up for the Triangle Stealth – a minor league basketball travel team.

“Shawan Robinson is a perfect fit at Panther Creek,” said Hepp in a press release. “He holds student-athletes to a high standard academically and from a character standpoint. He is a strong relationship builder. He has a passion for teaching the game. We are fortunate at Panther Creek to have coach Robinson leading our men’s basketball program.”

Panther Creek went 22-6 this past season.
