Richard W. Slatta: Local government matters

Local government matters

In today’s hostile political climate, with Republicans in the state legislature attacking higher education, public schools, immigrants and most recently local government, it’s worth remembering (now and in November) how essential local government services are.

After a recent plumbing repair, I received notice from a town of Cary employee about a water leak in my home to the tune of 10 to 20 gallons per hour. Thanks to the town’s electronic monitoring and the worker’s quick notification, we shut down the leak without wasting thousands of gallons and hundreds of dollars.

Let’s also shut down the legislators waging war on everyone except the rich.
