Batteries taken from four Wake school buses at Apex lot

From staff reportsJuly 7, 2014

— The Wake County school system lost four buses from service Monday morning because batteries had been stolen from them where they were parked.

The thefts were found less than 48 hours after fire damaged four buses at Southeast Raleigh High School.

Wake County Public School System transportation staff discovered the theft and contacted Apex police, officials said.

The buses were parked in a lot the district uses off Perry Road.

Four buses were found damaged by fire Saturday night outside the high school, and Raleigh police and fire officials are looking into that incident.

Monday was the first day of the school year for the district’s year-round campuses, but spokeswoman Renee McCoy said the loss of the eight buses did not affect routes.
